11/9/24 - Artist Highlight: Ho99o9
I've been listening to Ho99o9 (pronounced "Horror") casually for a few months now, first discovered through 3TEETH's EndEx (2023) album and since then I've been seeing their name pop up in quite a few different artist collabs and features ( such as The Prodigy, JPEGMAFIA, Ghostemane, Corey Taylor and Health, once again ). They seemed to have a very extensive musical career, which is why I'm surprised I hadn't come across them until last year. Finally for the past few days, the deep dive of listening to most of their discography has begun. They're a punk rap duo formed in 2012 and they're itching the brain a lot at the moment. I'm still listening over everything thoroughly but every album so far has been consistently engaging, progressive and I really enjoy their distinct sound.
My favourite albums so far and some notable songs:
- Dead Bodies in the Lake (2015)
- United States Of Horror (2017)
- Cyber Warfare (2019)
- SKIN (2022)
- Cyber Cop [Unauthorized MP3.] (2018)
and the EP
Cyber Warfare is probably most consistently my favourite album, so I'd probably recommend that as a first exposure.
- Off The Meter
- Lights Out
- Twist Of Fate/Cobra
- Plexiglass (Error)
- F.O.G. (Error)
- Master of Pain (Error)
- Face Tatt
- Bleed War
- Splash
- United States Of Horror
- BITE MY FACE (FEAT. COREY TAYLOR)
I really enjoy the different vibe for this new one ^
Big big favourite is their's and Corey Taylor's song, admittedly as a big Corey Taylor fan I like any music that man makes >_o but if I could liquify a song and inject it directly into my brain this one would probably be one of them.
Mostly been listening to Ho99o9 this week at work. It's been great for drowning out the unrelenting rage that naturally comes with customer service /hj :)
28/8/24 - Industrial Fixation
I've gone down the rabbit hole of industrial ambience/industrial music today. It's been quite an interesting journey to go down, being able to revisit Maenad Veyl whom I am already a fan of. I was originally exposed to their album Body Count (2019) a year or 2 ago. It was quite surreal since I had been listening to it on alone in a train carriage at night - optimum listening experience imo. They were on my radar again from listening to Health as I hadn't made the connection they collabed on the DISCO4::PARTII (2022) album until just the other day.
Side tangent - some notable songs from DISCO4::PARTII
- MURDER DEATH KILL
- GNOSTIC FLESH/MORTAL HELL
From listening to Veyl's Reassessment (2020), I then segued into Years of Denial who had featured, of which I quite like their vocals.
Then I came across Helena Hauff, specifically her 2015 album Discreet Desires. The album feels very raw and looking into her more she "records her tracks strictly using analog equipment, usually in one take" which I thought was rad as hell. I am a big fan of Sworn to Secrecy Part I & II. Moving on, I'm just starting to listen to a new artist Umwelt's Superior Life Forms (2019) as I type this out.
I hope to be able to listen through more of all of their discography and find some other industrial and analog artists that I enjoy. :)
In addition to my industrial rabbit hole, I was shown the website somafm.com which is one of my new favourite things. "listener-supported, commercial-free, underground/alternative radio" They have an industrial ambience station which I've been listening to. :P
